Rural Digital Opportunity Fund Phase I Results

Summary
RDOF is a $20.4 billion federal grant program administered by the FCC and funded by the Universal Service Fund (USF). The program will target the funds at broadband deployment in unserverd, “high-cost areas” through two phases over the next ten years.

In Phase I, the FCC awarded a total of $9.2 billion of the $16 billion allocated in this phase, conducting a reverse auction process that concluded in December 2020 targeted at wholly unserved census blocks. These funds will be distributed over ten years, with the expectation that the project is completed in six years.

States, localities and Tribes need to include the data on RDOF awarded service areas into their mapping efforts and plans for broadband expansion.
